Co-op/IIP Director wins Manitoba Aerospace All-Star Award

December 13, 2019 —

Manitoba Aerospace honoured our province’s leaders in aerospace at their All-Star Dinner on November 28. At the dinner, Carolyn Geddert, Director of the Faculty of Engineering Co-operative Education and Industrial Internship Program (Co-op/IIP) was given the 2019 All-Star Award for Excellence in Education and Training.

Carolyn, who also co-teaches the ENG 1430 design course, has been the driving force behind the Faculty’s Co-op/IIP which amalgamated the existing co-op programs in the faculty under one office. Since then, the program has witnessed exponential growth. 2018 was a record year for the program including over 500 student work terms with 162 different employers. The program provides students with an outstanding educational experience that helps to better prepare them for engineering positions after graduation. Employers are able to access top talent with vital skills to support their operations in Manitoba and across the country.

Carolyn was nominated by Barb Bowen who described her as “a tenacious and tireless advocate on behalf of the Co-op program but also of Manitoba Aerospace as a community.”

Carolyn says she is humbled by the award but credits the hard work of students, employers and her team for the success of the Co-op/IIP. “The success of Co-op/IIP is a combination of employer partnership, over-achieving students and hard work by the Co-op/IIP team. I am so thankful for the recognition by the aerospace industry, they are a very special industry group in Manitoba, collaborating to help others succeed.”
