Research Seminar Series: investigating global Indigenous peoples’ participation in sport coaching
A scholar from Down Under is headed to the University of Manitoba to share his research and discuss the topic of Australian Aboriginal inclusion in coaching.

Dr. Andrew Bennie
Dr. Bennie’s been exploring the relatively low representation of Indigenous coaches given the high number of Indigenous athletes in various high-performance sport settings. Findings thus far centre on a range of factors that either facilitated or obstructed coaching pathways.
Andrew Bennie, PhD, is a Senior Lecturer in the Health and Physical Education (HPE) Program at Western Sydney University.
Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management student Nickolas Kosmenko will give the introductory presentation at this Seminar Series session, speaking on his research, titled, “Slapping the Colonial ‘Puck’: Overcoming the barriers to First Nations athletes participation in university sport.”
