Call for Submissions: UMES launches design competition to commemorate the 14 victims of the December 6th L’École Polytechnique massacre.
History
On December 6th, 1989, a man entered an Engineering classroom at École Polytechnique in Montréal with an automatic weapon. He ordered all of the men to go to the right side of the room and the women to the left. He then proceeded to fire at the young women. Fourteen women were killed on that day, while thirteen others were injured.
This tragic act of violence against women cannot go unrecognized and it is our duty to remember these young and bright engineering students.
Design Competition
University of Manitoba Engineering Society is issuing a call for design proposals to commemorate the fourteen victims of the events on December 6, 1989, at École Polytechnique in Montréal.
All students enrolled at the University of Manitoba are welcome to submit a design either as an individual or as a team.

Prizes
1st Place: The winner/winning team will receive a $175.00 prize and the opportunity to
work with the organizing committee to integrate their design into the final memorial.
2nd Place: The first runner up will receive a $75.00 prize
3rd Place: The second runner up will receive a $50.00 prize

Once I was in the city, so I got the opportunity to go to the memorial design competition with a few friends. I could literally see the innovation of the students from their projects.
