Dr. Anthony Iacopino extended as Dean of the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry
Internationally respected scholar Dr. Anthony (Tony) Iacopino, Dean, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences has received a one-year term extension, effective July 1, 2018.
Originally appointed in July 2007, he has helped the College achieve significant progress on its nine strategic plan pillars and introduced a number of new and innovative academic programs. He has provided opportunities for student success to flourish, with young researchers winning awards for novel investigations, such as how nanoparticles can guide drugs to fight cavities. A high priority has been placed on alumni engagement and he has worked to secure record-setting support to create unique endeavours such as the dental implant program targeting underserved populations. The College has also expanded its outreach programs, which have in turn provided hundreds of refugees with free dental care.
Dr. Iacopino is an accomplished researcher who studied dentistry at Rutgers College, going on to earn his PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. His academic career began in 1988 at Baylor College of Dentistry in the United States and he arrived at the U of M in 2007.
