Prof. named to UK publication’s influential Canadians list
List influential Canadians off the top of your head and you might have a few in common with a recent list published by Monocle magazine. Monocle, a London, UK-based magazine that writes on culture, politics, and international affairs published its list of 20 influential Canadians in its November 2016 issue.
Present on that list was the University of Manitoba’s own Niigaanwewidam James Sinclair, an associate professor of native studies. Sinclair was featured for his work as a “champion of indigenous rights.” Sinclair is featured on this list alongside other Canadian greats such as Adrienne Clarkson, former Governor-General of Canada; Tatiana Maslany, actress and Emmy-nominee and Rick Mercer, well known satirist on the CBC.
Sinclair says of his place on Monocle’s list, “I’m honoured and humbled to be included on such an impressive list of advocates and leaders. I hope an award like this brings attention to the crucial role Indigenous people play in all cultural, political, and social environments – what I try to demonstrate in my work.”
