Faculty, staff and retirees raise $476,000
The annual Faculty, Staff and Retirees Campaign wrapped up March 31, 2015 having raised more than $476,000. Donors came forward and showed their commitment to building a stronger community, to supporting students, and to improving the U of M campuses.
The funds raised will go toward five areas of key importance: Indigenous achievement, graduate student support, research excellence, outstanding student experience, as well as places and spaces.
For Carol Schlamb, a staff donor, it’s all about accessibility and the future.
“I am glad to give towards the betterment of our children and their future education. It will only bring a new outlook and allow the future Aboriginal leaders of tomorrow to gain confidence in themselves and lead by example” says Schlamb.
Joe Kelly, president of the Faculty of Arts student body council emphasized the impact these donations have on the student experience.
“Donor support makes it possible for us students to not only focus in school but also get involved with extracurricular activities like student council and ‘Big Horns’,” says Kelly. “Helping one student, in turn, helps the greater student body.”
This year, all returned pledge forms were entered to win prizes generously donated by a variety of sponsors. Among this year’s winners was Karin Nowak-Bailey, Kinesiology and Recreation Management staff camapign ambassador and donor.
