Established by Dr. Henry E. Duckworth (president of the University of Winnipeg from 1971-81 and Chancellor of the University of Manitoba from 1986-92) for the 1991-92 season, the Challenge was intended to profile the intense but friendly cross-town rivalry between the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba.
This year’s edition of the Challenge is currently led 1-0 by Manitoba after a 1-0 victory on the soccer pitch on Oct. 6.
The basketball match up will be played on Thursday, January 31 at the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre, with the women at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.
