Celebrating the strength of women
International Women’s Day Dinner on March 6
Under this year’s International Women’s Day banner of #BeBoldForChange, AESES and the University of Manitoba’s Office of the President jointly host the 15th annual International Women’s Day Dinner on March 6th.
The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8 during International Women’s Year 1975. Two years later, it adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. In Canada, we also celebrate International Women’s Day on this date.
This year’s event at the U of M features keynote speaker, Dr. Deborah Stienstra, professor in the department of disability studies. She will share her talk on Implicating Inclusion: Women with Disabilities as Visionaries, Innovators, and Pioneers.
Stienstra’s stories of women with disabilities draw intimate connections between the pioneering and innovative work of these and other women. The stories run parallel to the goals of inclusion and accessibility at the U of M and beyond, highlighting themes of equity and disability rights.
