Bison helps Canada win gold
At the 2013 Winter Universiade (World University Games) in Trentino, Italy, Bison women’s hockey fifth-year defenceman Caitlin MacDonald earned a gold medal as part Team Canada after the squad completed a perfect 7-0 record with a convincing 5-0 final win over Russia in the gold medal game on Friday, December 20.
MacDonald assisted the game-winning goal and recorded a +3 plus/minus rating in the gold medal game. The twenty-one-year-old Winnipegger finished with eight points (two goals and six assists) and a +22 rating during the Universiade tournament.
“Playing for Team Canada and travelling to Italy for the Universiade Games has been an amazing experience and winning gold is something I will never forget,” MacDonald said after the victory. “I feel so lucky to have gotten to know and share this experience with this group of people as they have made it such a positive and unforgettable trip.”
