November 27 marks National Physician Assistant Day. The College of Medicine celebrates its PA program and everyone who works very hard to make program such a success. In honour of National PA Day (#PAdayCA) we bring you an article (from the next issue of MB Medicine) about two PA students who are doing some amazing work in the community.

Two years after its opening, in 1965, the school celebrated its very first class of graduates. This past October — now 50 years later — the school celebrated this milestone achievement with the Spirit of ’65; the largest open alumni reunion ever held by the school.

Dr. Melanie Wood received the Alumni of Distinction award for the College of Dentistry in light of an entire career spent developing oral health professionals at the University of Manitoba and all across Canada.

With the onset a winter, a new flu season is once again upon us. Every year, over 10,000 Canadians are hospitalized due to influenza. The best prevention to keep from getting sick is the flu vaccine.

A University of Manitoba research team investigating a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) was awarded $1.6 M as one of only five Canadian research teams selected for a translational team grant.
