On June 27, 2024, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, announced 83 new appointments to the Order of Canada, including one Companion, 16 Officers, two Honorary Officers and 64 Members.

Estelle Simons [B.Sc./65, MD/69], professor emerita at the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, has been named to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest honours.

Dr. Jillian Stobart from the College of Pharmacy has been awarded the Alzheimer Society Research Program New Investigator Grant of $200,000, over four years, from the Alzheimer Society of Canada and Research Manitoba.

UM and UBC lead groundbreaking research to improve gut health

Researchers from the University of Manitoba and the University of British Columbia have secured a $250,000 grant from the Government of Canada through the New Frontiers in Research Fund (Exploration) to lead a groundbreaking project aimed at developing new treatments for gastrointestinal (GI) diseases. The University of Alberta is also involved as a partner.
