Recreation Services launches Virtual Health and Fitness site
When COVID-19’s first wave made its impact across our community, keeping us home and forcing us to get creative with our day-to-day lives, Recreation Services jumped in and found a way to keep us moving and lift our spirits through online exercise and activity.
Now, in our second wave and at critical level on the Province’s Pandemic Response System with new restrictions that have forced the closure of all gyms and fitness facilities, Recreation Services is returning to a virtual programming schedule.
The commitment to active living at UM remains a priority despite any obstacles that arise as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.
The Recreation Services team has launched the Virtual health and fitness page that will provide members with online workout options while facilities are temporarily closed.
Once operations are able to return to in-person activities, the online offering will continue, further helping those who are not able to access the sport and recreation facilities in person.
“We’ve been working on how to make virtual options a part of our ongoing programming so that students and members who cannot visit us in person have options they can do at home,” said Tanya Angus, Director of Recreation Services. “This website will be our hub for all online programming going forward.”
The virtual workouts will include a variety of options that include guided workout videos, detailed, downloadable options that one can do at their own pace, movement and mobility videos, and tips and tricks from Recreation Services fitness staff.
