On-campus Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela

A Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela will be held in the Chapel at St. Paul’s College (70 Dysart Road) today, December 10, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

There will be a reception afterwards in Hanley Hall.

The date corresponds to the date selected by the Government of South Africa for the memorial service in the football stadium in Johannesburg. The state funeral takes place Sunday, Dec. 15.

The memorial service is not a religious service, but a tribute to the memory of a remarkable human being.

Thomas Nesmith, associate professor in history, will be one of the speakers. Peter Karari, a PhD candidate in Peace and Conflict Studies, who has helped organize the event will also be speaking. Gelareh Manghebati will be speaking on behalf of the graduate students at the Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice.
