Friends of Engineering host event with architects
On March 13 the Friends of Engineering (Manitoba) Inc. co-hosted a special event at Manitoba Hydro Place with the Partners (Architecture) group. These two industry-centred organizations share similar goals and values regarding their respective professions and both desire to be a resource to their respective faculties at the University of Manitoba.
The event, very well attended by members of both organizations, included a welcome from the Chair of each group and a brief presentation by the Dean of Engineering and the Dean of Architecture. All in attendance were encouraged and interested to hear the Deans’ desire to collaborate more on campus in an effort to more efficiently and effectively deliver their curriculum in a way that will best benefit their students and, in turn, their professions.
The evening also included a lovely buffet, generously provided by Manitoba Hydro, and a presentation by Mr. Tom Akerstream, the Corporate Facilities Department Manager at Manitoba Hydro, on the role of integrated design in the design, construction and commissioning of Manitoba Hydro Place.
At the end of the evening it was agreed these two groups should look at hosting more events together in an effort to share more ideas about their profession and to discuss how they can best support their faculties at the University of Manitoba.
