Flag at half-mast: May 24

May 24, 2016 —

It is with deep sadness that the University of Manitoba acknowledges the passing of recent Diploma in Agriculture graduate Rylan Laudin,  who died in a vehicular accident on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Rylan was 23 years old and farmed with his family near Brunkild, MB.

The class valedictorian at convocation exercises held earlier this month, Rylan is remembered as a positive and well-respected classmate, a passionate advocate for the agricultural industry and a proud supporter of the School of Agriculture. His family has had close ties with the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, offering up their farm for crop research plots in a fertilization study.

Any student needing support at this difficult time can contact the U of M Student Counselling Centre for an appointment at 204-474-8592 or to attend their office in-person to request an appointment.

A celebration of life for Rylan will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00 pm at Grant Memorial Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue in Winnipeg. The Tier Building flag will be lowered to half-mast on May 24 in recognition of this loss to the University of Manitoba community.

Donations in Rylan’s memory may be made to the Rylan Laudin Memorial Scholarship at the University of Manitoba. Gifts may be made online at: umanitoba.ca/giving or sent to the following address: Alumni and Donor Relations, 200-137 Innovation Drive, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg MB   R3T 6B6.
