Engineering student chases Olympic dream

August 9, 2012 —

KevinKowalykCivil Engineering student Kevin Kowalyk took a break from his studies at the University of Manitoba to make his Olympic rowing debut in London, England!

While his Men’s Double Sculls team did not receive a medal in competition, we are all very proud of him and his pursuit of excellence both as a student and as an athlete.

Kevin raced recreationally at the Winnipeg Rowing Club for five years before getting noticed by the national team, and has since competed at the 2011 World Championships in the men’s coxless fours finishing 7th and was 9th in the double sculls at the 2011 World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland, with partner Michael Braithwaite. Twice he won the Royal Canadian Henley in the Men’s Single Sculls, in 2007 and in 2009.

Way to go, Kevin!
