Dr. Rusty Souleymanov Recognized for Excellence in Teaching
The Faculty of Social Work is proud to announce that Dr. Rusty Souleymanov, associate dean of Undergraduate Programs and associate professor, has been honoured with the prestigious Outstanding University of Manitoba Teacher award by The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning. This accolade recognizes Dr. Souleymanov’s exceptional commitment to excellence in education, notably his dedication to fostering inclusive and transformative learning environments.
Dr. Souleymanov’s teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in queer-feminist, anti-colonial, and anti-racist perspectives, aiming to uplift communities that have been historically excluded in academia. His courses have inspired and cultivated a new generation of social workers. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Souleymanov is a mentor and leader, guiding his students in critical research areas including HIV, harm reduction, and the health of marginalized and equity-seeking communities.
We celebrate Dr. Souleymanov’s significant contributions to the Faculty of Social Work and the larger academic community, as well as his unwavering dedication to advancing social work through education.
