CJOB: UM Scientist Aboard CCGS Amundsen Studies Arctic Change

Researchers Dr. David Babb (Research Associate, Centre for Earth Observation Science) from the University of Manitoba and Dr. Lisa Matthes from Fisheries and Oceans Canada are studying sea ice thickness, growth, and content, including biological, chemical, and contaminant samples, aboard the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Amundsen. The team has observed wildlife such as polar bears and muskoxen in the area 3100 km north of Winnipeg. Dr. Babb’s work at the Centre for Earth Observation Science at the University of Manitoba contributes to understanding and protecting the Arctic environment.
