The Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts (GGArts) have recognized outstanding careers in the arts since 1999. The National Gallery of Canada proudly showcases the work of this year’s eight laureates, bringing fresh perspectives to contemporary art.
Among the distinguished laureates is School of Art Professor Grace Nickel, recipient of the Saidye Bronfman Award, a testament to her inspiring and continuing career in ceramics. Nickel is the second School of Art professor to win a GGArts award, following in the footsteps of Lori Blondeau, who was honored as the 2021 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts winner.
This exhibition, a collaboration between the National Gallery of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts, highlights the nation’s artistic identity.
