Last week, Dictionary.com named the Word of the Year for 2025. It is, to no surprise for middle-schoolers, ‘6-7’. For those of us who are not 13, Dr. Nicole Rosen, head of linguistics at the University of Manitoba, breaks it down.

Dr. Adam King, an assistant professor at University of Manitoba’s labour studies program, said it had been frustrating to be without the data because labour researchers depend on up-to-date work data, particularly in a period of a tense labour relations.
