Calling All Early Birds!

December 16, 2014 —

What better way to welcome in the New Year than with a great deal on a pair of fun and informative events that will also count towards your Professional Activity Record (PAR)?

To lead off its 2015 membership drive, University of Manitoba School of Dental Hygiene Alumni Association is pleased to announce a special ‘members only’ offer to build camaraderie amongst the group.

In January, 2015, the UMSDHAA is pleased to present a pair of PAR events, beginning with a Wine and Cheese evening on Friday, January 23.

Plus, the next day, it’s Ergonomics in Dental Practice – a unique professional development seminar featuring four speakers, a full lunch buffet and plenty of ‘hands-on’ learning.

As an early thank you to its membership, UMSDHAA members can enroll for both events for only $55! That’s a saving of almost one-third of the two-event registration fee. Plus, all early bird registrants will be entered into a prize draw for a Dental Hygiene Wellness Package courtesy of the UMSDHAA. The offer expires on Sunday, December 14, 2014.

“We wanted to say ‘thank you’ to our members and what better way to do that than by offering them preferred registration fees?” said Cindy Isaak-Ploegman, president of the UMSDHAA. “Many of us are already looking forward to the Wine and Cheese evening. This will be a great networking opportunity for all of our colleagues. So overall, we think this represents great value for our members.”

The Friday evening Wine and Cheese will be held at the CanadInns Health Sciences Centre, beginning at 7 pm. Dental hygiene professionals will have the opportunity to meet and greet members of the School of Dental Hygiene academic staff and members of the school’s incoming class who will be attending the event.

“Networking is big part of our profession,” Cindy says. “We are also fortunate to have tremendous camaraderie in our professional community, so this shapes up to be a great event for everyone.”

Saturday’s seminar will address ergonomic issues dental hygienists face in the workplace. The alumni group has recruited four outstanding presenters who will look at some of the injuries common in the profession and what hygienists can do to prevent them. Confirmed speakers are occupational therapist Leslie Johnson (MSc), physiotherapist Julie Scarlett (BSc), Prof. Laura MacDonald (Dip.DH, BSc, MEd) and personal trainer Brenda Kulik-Macaulay (cfi).

Both events will be held in Ambassador Room A at the newly opened facility a short walking distance from the School of Dental Hygiene.

While the Early Bird discount applies to members only, the UMDAA will offer the discount to those who sign on for membership at the time of registration!

“We think this is a nice way to say ‘thanks’ to our current members,” Cindy says. “We also think this would be a great welcoming gift to new members of our association as the kick-off to our 2015 membership drive.”

Event registration and UMSDHAA membership forms are now available through the School of Dental Hygiene website. Just visit: umanitoba.ca/dentistry/dentalhygiene.

Current and future members are also welcome to contact the UMSDHAA directly to take advantage of this limited time offer that expires in mid-December.
