University of Manitoba Bison alumna, Taylor Pischke, and teammate Melissa Humana-Paredes from York University captured the women’s North Central American, and Caribbean (NORCECA) championship beach volleyball title this week by out-dueling Cubans Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez in the Championship finals. The Canadian-A pair have now claimed two U23 world championship bronze medals, 2 NORCECA circuit titles, and one NORCECA championship title while competing on the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Tour at 21 years of age.

This NORCECA Championship win moves the pair to top ranked Canadian team in the FIVB (Federation of International Volleyball) heading into the 2015 Olympic qualification year. On the Olympic pathway they are now currently positioned at 15th in the world rankings taking into account that only two teams per country can be ranked for Olympic qualification purposes.
