Farewell to ‘Old Basic’
Demolition of the old Basic Medical Sciences building at Bannatyne campus
After nearly 100 years, the University of Manitoba will be saying goodbye to the Basic Medical Sciences building at the Bannatyne Campus, commonly referred to as “Old Basic.”
Starting in September, demolition of the building and the connections to adjacent buildings will commence. A construction fence around the building will be erected to secure the construction site, restricting all access into and through Old Basic.
Entrance into Medical Rehabilitation off of McDermot will remain operational during construction; however, Parking Lot B will no longer be accessible.
It is anticipated that the sidewalk along the North side of McDermot will remain open, but access may be disrupted at various times during construction, re-routing pedestrians to the sidewalk to the South.
The anticipated completion for the demolition project is May 2017.
