UMTI director provides expert advice to the UN on climate change adaptation
Adolf K.Y. Ng, director of the Transport Institute at the University of Manitoba, was invited as an expert to the Technical Expert Meeting under the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) project on “Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for Coastal Transport Infrastructure in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)”.
The meeting, held in Geneva, Switzerland from June 29 to July 1, aimed to strengthen the capacity of policymakers, transportation planners and infrastructure managers in SIDS to understand climate change impacts on coastal transportation infrastructure and to take appropriate adaptation measures.
During the meeting, Adolf K.Y. Ng shared his view on the attitude of transportation stakeholders when adapting to climate change impacts. He pointed out the importance of intergovernmental organisations in “incentivising” transportation stakeholders’ commitment so as to ensure adaptation measures to be implemented successfully.
