Bannatyne Campus: Top-5 Places to Eat
Last week we highlighted a few places in and around Bannatyne Campus to rest, relax, and enjoy. Today, we take it a step further. We’ve compiled a short list of great places around campus to have lunch or enjoy a quick snack at. Because everyone has to eat, right?
Beet Happening
This was the overwhelming favourite of those who responded to our social media posts on best places to eat around campus. Located at 818 Notre Dame Ave. (near the intersection of Notre Dame and Tecumseh), Beet Happening is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers breakfast and lunch all day. It gets quite busy on Fridays around noon so plan accordingly.

Watta Sushi
Just south of Health Sciences Centre at 837 Sherbrook St. We recommend the avocado rolls or the pork dumpling with gyoza sauce. As an added bonus, Watta Sushi offers online ordering.

Hot Dog Carts
There are two hot dog carts set up around campus: one just outside the Manitoba Clinic and one set up on the boulevard just south of the campus’ main doors at 727 McDermot Ave. near the bike racks. Both offer a selection of hot dogs, smokies, burgers, chips, and drinks – perfect for those cheat days.
Foon Hai
Although this restaurant isn’t on campus and is about a 15-minute walk away, it’s certainly worth the trip. Located at 329 William Ave., Foon Hai offers exquisite Chinese cuisine. The Diced Chicken Szechuan Noodle Soup is simply amazing (just ask for number 170 on the menu).
HSC Farmer’s Market
While not your traditional sit-in restaurant, the HSC Farmer’s Market offers a fine selection of Manitoba grown fruits and vegetables; homemade desserts and dainties; and locally produced flavoured vinegars and hummus. The Market operates every Wednesday year round. In the summer months it’s located in the parking lot between the hospital and Bannatyne Campus; in the winter months you can find them in the second floor HSC cafeteria.
