Nineteen new doctors to practice medicine in rural Manitoba

The U of M’s College of Medicine will graduate 19 newly trained Medical Licensure Program for International Medical Graduates (MLPIMG) whom will begin practicing family medicine in rural and underserved areas of Manitoba.

The graduates, who have spent the last year training and enhancing their skills in 13 four-week postgraduate medical education rotations, will be practicing family medicine in such locations as Thompson, Swan River, Pine Falls and Garden Hill to name a few.

“We are extremely proud of this group of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and trust they will serve their new communities with care, compassion and professionalism,” says Martina Reslerova, Director, International Medical Graduate Programs, College of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences.

Where: Joe Doupe Concourse, 2nd floor Basic Medical Sciences Building, 745 Bannatyne Ave.

The U of M’s IMG program is for Canadians who have trained in medical schools outside Canada and want to practice medicine in Manitoba. The program lasts for one-year and prepares IMGs to work independently in underserved regions of Manitoba. Upon completion, IMGs are required to practice medicine in these areas for a period of four years as part of their return of service agreement.
