Helping women and the environment in Bangladesh

Since 2007 University of Manitoba researchers and students have worked with community partners in Bangladesh to improve the lives of local women and their deteriorating environment. As a part of this project, a film has been created and it will screen at the Winnipeg Art Gallery to an invited audience.

Titled “Dream Weavers”, the film captures the true stories of these women as it traces their struggle and triumph. It is based on the experiences of the University of Manitoba’s partnerships with the local community organizations, NGO’s, educational and governmental organizations in Bangladesh.

The purpose of this film is to promote “entertainment-education” means in international development, trade and cultural exchange areas.

The projects lead researcher is professor C. Emdad Haque from the U of M’s Natural Resources Institute. His research focuses on how humans address environmental and resource problems.

The film’s writer and director M.S. Rony says the film “shows how the invisible connection of minds follow a single dream: to live better with sustainability.”
