School of Art Show + Sale opens to public on March 8
Event showcases a curated selection of student artworks
For the first time ever, School of Art students will be hosting a curated art show and sale, open to the public.
Whether you’re a seasoned art collector, or simply seeking to support emerging talent, this is a wonderful opportunity to discover your new favourite artist and support emerging talent at the School of Art.
“The sale will feature a variety of works created by School of Art students,” says Rebecca Smith, who is organizing the sale with Charli Feener, both of whom are co-presidents of the School of Fine Art Student Association. “From painting to sculpture to ceramics, there is guaranteed to be something that will catch everyone’s eye.”
There are a variety of artworks centered around the themes of Winnipeg, the Prairies and Métis and cultural heritage, says Smith.
“Overall, the body of works selected for the Show + Sale is just a small sample of what artists are producing at the School of Art. We are proud to celebrate and showcase their skill and artistic vision.”
Prices for the works have been established in consultation with established artists, and accommodate a wide variety of budgets. Pieces are priced in a range from $150 to over $4,000. All proceeds go directly to the artist.
“Any opportunity for students to share their work with the public is valued,” says Smith. “To have the chance to present their work to the UM community is something special,” says Smith, adding that this is an opportunity for emerging artists to get a taste of the art market.
Mark your calendars, and make sure you check out their work.
