A grim topic that needs to be discussed

The University of Manitoba’s Social Work Student Association and Graduate Student Association are organizing a workshop for Winnipeg’s medical community on Oct. 11; the topic is forced organ harvesting in China.

The workshop is sponsored by the Faculty of Social Work, Department of Sociology, Asian Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies, Arthur Mauro Centre of St Paul’s College.

Speakers:

1. Dr. Kirk Allison, Program in Human Rights and Medicine, University of Minnesota
2. Dr. Damon Noto, Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH)
3. David Matas, instructor of law at the University of Manitoba, international human rights lawyer based in Winnipeg, nominee for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize.

What: Workshop on Forced Organ Harvesting in China:  History and implications for health-care professionals and professions
When: Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, 2:30 p.m.
Where: St-Boniface Hospital Auditorium, Room DG030, 409 Taché Avenue Winnipeg

The panel discussion will be broadcast through Telehealth to various hospitals.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m., a rally is organized by the student associations at the front steps of the Manitoba Legislative Building, followed by a walk, to raise public awareness over this issue. The above-mentioned speakers will also speak at the rally.
