Enjoy some great performances from the Desautels Faculty of Music
The University of Manitoba Opera Theatre and the UM Symphony Orchestra present Rossini’s La Cenerentola on December 2 and 3. This Italian operatic version of Cinderella will include featured performers Jillian Bonner, Jayne Hammond, Rebecca McIntosh, Chad Abrahamson, John Anderson, Daniel Thielmann and Nicholas Urquhart.

Bodies of Water is a live, interdisciplinary dance event that explores the spiritual dimensions of movement, the body and water. The piece features choreography by Stephanie Ballard, music by Gordon Fitzell’s eXperimental Improve Ensemble (XIE) from the Desautels Faculty of Music, and performance by Brenda Cantelo’s Religion and Dance students from the Faculty of Arts.

The Collegium Musicum Ensemble, directed by James Maiello, presents Noel on Sunday, December 6. The term Collegium Musicum typically signifies a small ensemble with a focus on early music. Thus, the repertoire comes from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque periods. This is a massive repertoire which includes such major genres as: liturgical and secular monophony; the madrigals of England and Italy; the “part-songs” of various European countries; the chanson; the polyphonic Mass; early and late motets; and various idioms of solo song.

Selected jazz ensemble groups play at Mardi Jazz, a weekly jazz performance at the Centre Cultural Franco-Manitobain. The next performance occurs on Tuesday, December 8.
