Bison men's volleyball finish first, host final four at home
The University of Manitoba Bison men’s volleyball team finished up their regular season at the top of their class.
The number one ranked herd will host the conference final four on March 10-11.
The Bison men finished their regular season with an astounding 21-and-3 record.
Basketball
The Bison men’s basketball team are in the U SPORTS final four.
The herd beat UBC in a wild best-of-three series over the weekend.
Manitoba will face the Calgary Dinos on March 3 at 9pm Central Time in the conference semifinal game.
The Bison women’s team finished 12th while the men finished tied for 22 overall at the U SPORTS Swimming Championships.
Bison women’s rookie Kelsey Wog finished second in women’s 50-metre breaststroke and third in the 200-metre individual medley.
Wog earned a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian recognition after one gold, one sliver medal and two bronze medal finishes at her first U SPORTS championships.
She was also named Canada West Female Third Star of the Week ending February 26.
At the Canada West Track and Field Championships in Regina, the Bison men’s team finished in third place with 55 points. On the women’s side, the Herd was fifth with 47.5 points.
Manitoba’s top performances ended the competition with four individual podium finishes as third-year Tegan Turner won the women’s 60m in a time of 7.42 and in the process set a new championship time in that event.
Fourth-year Alhaji Mansaray won the men’s high jump with a 2.06m result.
Fourth-year Gee-ef Nkwonta was second in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 14.90m while rookie Rebekah Eckert captured second in the women’s triple jump with a jump of 11.87m.
Fourth-year Adam Gundrum ended up third in men’s heptathlon with 4462 points.
The Bison relays teams were also on the podium as the women’s 4x200m (1:40.90) was second while the men’s 4×400 (3:22.63) finished third.
