Master of Landscape Architecture Program 50th Anniversary Student Recruitment Scholarship

December 6, 2024 — 
The Department of Landscape Architecture is delighted to announce the establishment of a new entrance scholarship to commemorate 50 years of learning and teaching landscape architecture in Manitoba. The University of Manitoba’s Master of Landscape Architecture program celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. During the academic year 2022-2023, various festive events occurred, including fundraising for a new recruitment scholarship. Since then, we have achieved our first fundraising milestone, $25,000, which will establish the endowment fund and launch the Master of Landscape Architecture Program 50th Anniversary Student Recruitment Scholarship in 2025.

Undergraduate Research Award: A summer of development and discovery

Fourteen Faculty of Architecture students earned Undergraduate Research Awards this summer. Valued at $7000 each, these competitive awards enable students to work with researchers of their choice on projects that develop skills, drive discovery and inspire ideas for their future studies and careers.

UM Science Courtyard Design Internationally Acclaimed

October 15, 2024 — 
Professors Dietmar Straub and Anna Thurmayr from the Department of Landscape Architecture designed, planted and maintained the courtyard for several years. This pro bono work has allowed Dietmar and Anna to include applied research in the scope of this project. The non-standard amalgam of materiality, ecology, horticulture, soil science, entomology, and research drive the design's success. The selection of materials embraces modest and locally available ingredients, which follow an intentional choreography to transform the place into a biodiversity hotspot and Living Lab.
