Curtain rises on John J. Conklin Theatre

“Now we have a world-class stage,” says award-winning playwright Ian Ross [BA/92] on the unveiling of the John J. Conklin Theatre inside the newly renovated Taché Hall. The grand opening took place on March 15, 2016 with a Black Hole Theatre Company production of Ross’ new play Doubtful House, directed by recently retired theatre coordinator Chris Johnson. The John J. Conklin Theatre is named in recognition of a donation from E.D. Conklin in honour of his father, a renowned journalist and drama critic.

“I thank the University of Manitoba for fulfilling the wish of Uncle Ed to honour my grandfather by creating this wonderful performing theatre and naming it John J. Conklin Theatre,” said Murray Conklin, grandson of John J. Conklin and nephew of E.D. Conklin. “My son and daughter told me that when their children attend the U of M they are going to be very proud, as am I.”
