University Centre food court construction update

September 5, 2014 —

If you’ve visited University Centre lately, you may have noticed it looks a bit like a construction zone.

Construction began this summer on a new food court in University Centre (UC) with the reopening scheduled for later in 2014. The renovated space will include new restaurant concepts and updated eating areas.

In the meantime and until the dust settles, here are some of the food options available. During Orientation week (Sept. 8 to 12), UMSU has exclusive use of UC tables and rental area; therefore some of the food options open the following week.

Starbucks in University Centre will open to the public on September 15, while Bistro 205 is already open, serving grab-and-go items such as express sandwiches, salads, sushi, fresh soups and chili.

The alcove outside Tim Hortons on the second floor will offer hot entrée meals and pizza. Service will commence immediately at the end of Orientation week and will continue through construction. Starting September 15, a coffee cart with Fair Trade locally-roasted coffee and fresh local baked goods will be located in the north end of the 230 UC corridor. Another temporary coffee cart can be accessed in the Athletics/Extended Education Building.

The BBQ is currently open and will maintain the hours listed (east side patio outside University Centre).

Tim Hortons on the second floor UC, Tim Hortons EITC, Subway, Get the Good Stuff, Pembina Hall, Greenhouse Cafe and Starbucks Dafoe are all open. Subway (UC) hours are now extended. No changes or closures at Drake, Greenhouse, Dafoe Starbucks, Education, Fresh Food Company or EITC Tim Hortons.

More information on construction plans and concepts can be found here. Look for weekly updates on hours of operation here.
