January 15, 2014 —

Melanie Glenwright, an associate professor of psychology, studies kids and sarcasm and she spoke to the magazine Today’s Parent about it, noting that while outlawing its use may seem instinctive, it isn’t the best tactic. “It’s not necessarily a bad skill to have, and parents who try to prevent children from using sarcasm may be doing them a disservice.”

Research at the University of Manitoba is partially supported by funding from the Government of Canada Research Support Fund.
