Take Our Kids to Work Day an opportunity for experiential learning

Faculty and staff can register now for Nov. 6 programming

October 7, 2019 —

Through the annual Take Our Kids to Work Day, participating Grade 9 students can learn about the diverse roles and tasks in today’s workplace and explore possible future career options by spending a day at the workplace of their parent, relative, friend or volunteer host.

Launched in 1994 by The Learning Partnership, the initiative has become the most recognized career exploration event in Canada.

The University of Manitoba will host the annual Take Our Kids to Work Day (TOKTWD),  on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at both the Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses.

Students can job-shadow their U of M host for the full day or participate in the scheduled programming. Registration for programmed TOKTWD is now open; please see details below. No registration is required for job-shadowing—simply speak with your supervisor to make arrangements.

Fort Garry campus

The Fort Garry Campus event runs from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Students will have the opportunity take part in fun, interactive programming, including workshops hosted by a variety of group on campus.

Students can look forward to programming from: Physical Plant and Campus Sustainability; School of Art; Faculty of Architecture; Let’s Talk Science; Bison Sports; Commerce Students’ Association; Women in Science and Engineering (WISE); Faculty of Arts; University of Manitoba Society of Automotive Engineering (UMSAE); and the Department of Mathematics.

Bannatyne campus

The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences will host events at the Bannatyne campus from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Students can enjoy a day of hands-on activities, performing various scientific and medical techniques. The program includes a variety of health sciences professions and scientific careers, highlighting the diversity of health sciences education in the Rady Faculty.

Space is limited at both campuses. Faculty and staff are encouraged to register their child, relative or guest as soon as possible.

Register here for Fort Garry programming. Registration deadline: Wednesday, October 30.
