UM’s Blankstein Momentum Program assists in student success

The Blankstein Momentum Program, offered by the Indigenous Student Centre, connects Indigenous students to UM resources they may not have known of or actively sought out on their own. Momentum uses a holistic approach that includes biweekly workshops (September – March), advisor meetings, access to tutors, group activities and cultural/spiritual care.

Members and allies of the Indigenous campus community at the University of Manitoba gathered today to celebrate 10 outstanding students, staff and faculty at the 2023 Honouring Our Indigenous Campus Community recognition ceremony. Each year, Indigenous Engagement and Communications and the Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous) recognize the efforts and achievements of the inspiring people that are working to make the University a better place.

One of the extraordinary young alumni we are honouring for his contributions and successes is Mihskakwan James Harper, who will receive UM’s Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Young Alumni for 2023.

Two-Spirit Métis Elder encourages community to choose love and acceptance

Two-Spirit Elder Charlotte Nolin is an elder in residence at Ongomiizwin – Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing at the University of Manitoba. She is an Indigenous person of Métis ancestry – Oji-Cree and French – a survivor of the “Sixties Scoop” and a member of the 2SLGBTQQIA+ community. Through her role with the University, Elder Nolin looks to her own journey to help others.
