Kathleen BlueSky [MBA/15] has received recognition from AACSB International (AACSB)—the world’s largest business education association—in its 2025 Class of Influential Leaders, a group of 24 outstanding entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs from AACSB-accredited business schools.

January 22, 2025 — 
Sonja Boon is the newest Writer-In-Residence at The Centre for Creative Writing and Oral Culture (CCWOC) at the University of Manitoba. Boon will work with students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the public from January to April 2025. Take this opportunity to attend the welcome event, join a workshop or book an individual writer consultation.

Matt Schaubroeck [MBA/17] is Principal and CEO of Leverage Point Consulting, where he works with start-ups and founders seeking to pursue business that has a positive impact on the world—fellow entrepreneurs with the drive not just to start a business but to do business differently. The role is a natural fit for Schaubroeck, a founder who thrives in the execution.

On December 4 and 5, 2024, law students from the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre and the Criminal Law Group participated in the Criminal Defence Lawyers Association of Manitoba [CDLAM] annual conference. As a professional association representing the interests of Manitoba criminal defence lawyers, CDLAM brings together lawyers, law students and other justice system participants to reflect on the last year in criminal law, explore emerging issues, and call attention to the unique professional challenges of criminal defence lawyering.

December 15, 2024 — 
The Young Associates of the Asper School of Business are pleased to announce Gail Asper, O.C., O.M., LL.D. - Chair and Trustee, The Asper Foundation as the 2025 recipient of the IGNITE award. IGNITE 2025 will take place on September 17, 2025 at the RBC Convention Centre.

December 9, 2024 — 
On November 21, 2024, the Manitoba Indigenous Law Students Association (MILSA), in partnership with the Manitoba Bar Association’s newly established Indigenous Lawyers Forum, hosted the inaugural “In Good Relations” networking event at Migizii Agamik (“the Bald Eagle Lodge”) on the University of Manitoba campus. Julianna Albert, a 2L student, translated “In Good Relations” into Cree as “kâkînaw mino omâkiinak,” noting that the name “beautifully captures the essence of the event.” Designed as an informal and welcoming gathering, the event aimed to foster meaningful connections between Indigenous law students, practicing lawyers, and articling students.
