In the last three months, the Asper case community has been busy with a diverse array of competitions, generating invaluable experiential learning opportunities and community engagement.

March 31, 2023 — 
Cassie Phaneuf [BComm(Hons)/22] majored in actuarial mathematics at the Asper School of Business before securing an internship at Intact Insurance in Montréal. Despite her specialization, her first assigned project involved more than traditional actuarial work. With the breadth of her business education, Phaneuf was well-prepared.

How do societies know when an epidemic is over and normal life can resume? What are the criteria and markers of an epidemic’s end, and who has the insight, authority, and credibility to decipher these signs? Join Dr. Erica Charters, professor of the global history of medicine at the University of Oxford for an insightful conversation on how war, disease, and state formation intersect. Erica Charters currently leads a multidisciplinary project on How Epidemics End.

January 4, 2023 — 
Free Exhibition honouring Dr. Gerhard Herzberg’s 1971 Nobel Prize award in Chemistry will be on display in the Jim Peebles Science and Technology Library from Jan. 4 - Jan. 24, 2023.

October 31, 2022 — 
The first Entrepreneurship Speaker Series kicks off on Friday, November 4, 2022 in-person with alum Chris Schmidt who graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in 2016, and a year later, a company he founded, Geofilter Studio became Canada’s fastest growing company.

Alumna Natascha Fitch shares her journey from master's degree to scientific sales.

September 2, 2022 — 
The memory of Associate Professor Dr. Dana Schroeder will be honoured through a new graduate scholarship and a study space in the Faculty of Science. Dr. Schroeder was a respected associate professor in the department of biological sciences, where she worked from 2002 until the time of her passing in September 2020. Dana was a valued colleague, mentor, and friend. She is fondly remembered for her cheerful optimism and kindness to students and colleagues alike.

August 30, 2022 — 
Robson Hall Alumni may remember Professor Alvin Esau as a mild-mannered Albertan with an LLM from Harvard and an interest in ethics, professional responsibility, and the legal history of anabaptist communities. Having previously published a study on The Courts and the Colonies: The Litigation of Hutterite Church Disputes (UBC Press, 2004), no one would suspect that his new book would be about a violent serial killer from the 1920s known as the “Gorilla Man Strangler.” This summer, Professor Esau, a faculty member from 1977 to 2010, has got away with – publishing about – murder.
