Traffic restrictions, transit changes: November

UPDATED: Nov. 5

All road projects, including University Cres./Dafoe Rd. Intersection, are continuing to make progress. Dafoe Road in front of Active Living Centre will be closed for construction work until mid-November. There will be no access to Alumni Lane via Freedman Cres. from Oct. 28 to Nov. 15. This has changed from the previous timeline.

Please note that projected timelines may change; updates will be provided as possible.

The weather has had an impact on timelines. Please note that there is always some uncertainty with construction timelines and dates are typically indicated as projected dates rather than hard deadlines.

See additional information here (FAQs: road and infrastructure projects) and here (Freedman Cres., Alumni Lane) .

The service disruptions page will also be updated as work unfolds.

UPDATED Sept. 1.

To repair and upgrade roads, and to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, a number of ongoing roadway construction projects are currently underway around the Fort Garry campus. Commutes will likely be slightly delayed as this important work is completed. Delays could be 7 to 15 minutes during peak periods.

The current project has been underway since May, and is expected to continue until mid-October.

Dafoe Road in front of Active Living Centre will be closed for construction work until mid-October. The Active Living Centre can be accessed from East Dafoe Rd. via Freedman Crescent and Maclean Crescent.

The service disruptions page will also be updated as work on the intersection unfolds.

We will continue to update the service disruptions page as the work on the intersection unfolds.

______________

Aug. 1, 2019:

Upgrades to make Fort Garry campus more inviting

Construction is underway on University Cres. between Chancellor Matheson Rd. and Dafoe Rd.

Delays can be expected, including periodic impacts to pedestrian and cycling access. Watch for signage and obey all temporary crossings and closures.

Landscape upgrades along University Crescent will include new seating and drop-off area by the Active Living Centre, median plantings, and pedestrian and cycling improvements.

Next up will be the raised pedestrian crossings on Dafoe Rd., reconstruction of Freedman Cres. between Service St. 7S to the bus-staging area (Wpg Transit), and finally upgrades to make our Fort Garry campus greener and more inviting, with a new multi-use path along Saunderson Street and Dysart Road.

See below for construction details, complete timeline and overview.

The Fort Garry road renewal program started in 2018 and will span approximately five years. 2018 work included reconstruction of Freedman Crescent beginning east of King’s Drive to Saunderson Street at Dysart Road, just east of the Faculty of Law’s Robson Hall.
