Student health research showcase
Three Days Celebrating Excellence in Medical and Graduate Student Research
The Faculty of Health Sciences will be hosting more than 330 of Canada’s top health research students and postdoctoral fellows at the 27th annual Canadian Student Health Research Forum and the Canadian National Medical Student Research Symposium June 10-12, 2014 at the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne Campus. The event provides for a one-of-a-kind venue offering students engaged in health research the opportunity to network, learn about cutting-edge research from internationally renowned experts and be recognized for their own outstanding scientific accomplishments.
The Canadian Student Health Research Forum also features research poster days, awards, tours and social events as well as a one-day symposium on cross-disciplinary scientific themes by some of the world’s leading scientists and researchers. This year’s symposium theme, Diabetes: Nature & Nurture, is presented in honour and memory of diabetes researcher and trailblazer Dr. John A. Moorhouse [MD/50].
“The Canadian Student Health Research Forum constantly reminds me of the progress we continue to make in the area of collaborative health research,” says Brian Postl, Dean of Medicine; Dean & Vice-Provost (Health Sciences).” The involvement of students in research creates the pipeline to the future of research in this country. We are grateful we can contribute to their exposures with such a wonderful event.”
The Canadian National Medical Student Research Symposium’s keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Tobias Kollmann, Associate Professor, Division of Infectious and Immunological Diseases, Department of Pediatrics, University of British Columbia, on “Neonatal Development of Human Immunity: Implications for Health and Disease,” Wednesday, June 11 at 12:30 p.m. in Frederic Gaspard Theatre.
In addition, a Poster Session and Presentation of Recognition Awards for the Canadian Student Health Research Forum will be held in Thursday, June 12 at 4:00 p.m. in Brodie Atrium.
