National Observer: Historic first: Three Indigenous ministers join Canada’s cabinet

Canada’s new federal cabinet under Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed Rebecca Chartrand as minister of northern and Arctic affairs, Mandy Gull-Masty as minister of Indigenous services and Buckley Belanger as secretary of state for rural development.

Niigaan Sinclair, professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Manitoba, said the new cabinet is promising and represents a shift away from the Trudeau government.
