Libraries open study spaces for students

Beginning August 17, students who need a place to work may find quiet study space in the Libraries during weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Elizabeth Dafoe Library provides study space on a drop-in basis; while the Sciences & Technology Library requires advanced booking, with space reserved for a full day.

Library spaces — for students only

Study space is reserved for UM students only. Main library floors of the open libraries will be available as a quiet study zone. All other areas and levels, including elevators and group study rooms will be closed.

When you arrive at your library of choice, you will need to have your UM ID card in order to gain entrance to the study spaces.

For your safety during COVID-19

Study space and occupant capacity are limited due to safety precautions for COVID-19.  Students are asked to physical distance and mask use is required.

Furniture has been arranged to ensure physical distancing. Students are asked to respect this placement and library signage for their own and others’ safety.

Additional information

Students may bring their own water, since water fountains are unavailable. However, no other beverages are allowed, nor is any food permitted in the libraries. Starbucks is closed. Printing and photocopying services are currently unavailable.

Libraries are open for study space only; access to physical library materials remains closed and staff will not be available in person.

However, Libraries can retrieve materials for you for pick-up, and provide other help.
