Free holiday concert set for Dec. 14

December 8, 2016 —

It’s a holiday tradition at the U of M. Every year holiday cheer rings throughout campus with a free concert featuring carols and festive songs inside the Admin Building.

The event is hosted by the Office of the President and features the Ecco Singers.

The annual concert has become very popular with the university community, resulting in a standing room only audience inside the Admin Building.

The harmonious voices and orchestral performances can also be heard broadcast from the top of the Admin Building so those passing by can hear.

The concert should be streamed so that those of us unable to attend could listen. I work at Bannatyne and it is impossible for me to get there. Wish I could hear the music.

It would be great if this were not broadcast from the rooftops–so that people associated with the university who aren’t Christian can choose not to participate. Theoretically, the university is an academic institution, and some choose to continue to do what they are paid for: research, teaching, and other job-related activities during this time of year.

Religious ritual and tradition are great things: Let’s all do it in our respective houses of worship rather than forcing it on others in the public square.
