September 13, 2021 —

University of Manitoba professor Dr. James Blanchard will give this year’s Class of 1972 Arnold Naimark Lecture in Medicine and Society virtually on Sept. 17 at 12 p.m.

Blanchard is a professor of community health sciences, executive director of the Institute for Global Public Health and Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology and Global Public Health at the Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences.

Blanchard’s lecture is titled People, Programs and Pandemics: How the University of Manitoba is Reshaping the Role of Academia in Global Public Health.

The UM alumnus’ lecture will cover the professional roles, responsibilities and opportunities in global public health. The focus will be on how members of the University of Manitoba have contributed to public health initiatives provincially, nationally and internationally, with an emphasis on blending service, research and education to improve health outcomes.

Over the past 20 years, Blanchard has provided leadership for the design and implementation of large public health programs related to maternal, newborn and child health, HIV/AIDS and other health issues in India, other Asian countries and Africa.
