Announcing new leadership appointments

The University of Manitoba is pleased to announce the following acting and extended appointments.

Dr. David Mandzuk
Acting Dean, Extended Education

 

Dr. David Mandzuk will serve as acting dean of Extended Education, in addition to continuing to serve as dean of Education.

A respected administrator and one of UM’s longest serving deans, Dr. Mandzuk is known for exploring meaningful collaborations with internal and external partners that support the needs of students and the larger educational systems. His commitment to life-long learning, to strengthening partnerships with the business community and to advancing UM’s commitment to Indigenous engagement will be valuable in this position.

The University of Manitoba thanks Dr. Mandzuk for taking on this additional leadership role.

 

Dr. Louise Simard
Acting Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies

Dr. Louise Simard has been appointed acting dean for the Faculty of Graduate Studies until December, 2020.

As associate dean in graduate studies, since 2018, Dr. Simard has been instrumental in overseeing the development of new programs, maintaining the quality of existing programs and supporting graduate students. Prior to joining Graduate Studies, she served as head of the department of biochemistry and medical genetics in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences. Always generous with her time, she is strongly committed to graduate student success and its broader impact in research, scholarly work and creative activities.

The university welcomes Dr. Simard to her new role.

 

Dr. Jeffery Taylor
Acting Director, School of Art
Dean, Faculty of Arts

Dr. Jeffrey Taylor has been appointed acting director for the School of Art for the term January 2019 to December 2022. In addition, Dr. Taylor’s term as dean of the Faculty of Arts has also been extended to August, 2024.

Since 2011, Dr. Taylor has led one of UM’s largest faculties and is now successfully providing the same level of outstanding leadership to the School of Art. In both of these roles, he has been a strong advocate for the Faculty and the School, he has exhibited a deep commitment to collegial governance processes, and he has always ensured that the Faculty and School’s priorities align with the university’s strategic plan. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Taylor has also been an outstanding and active contributor to many prominent university-wide initiatives.

The University of Manitoba is pleased to have Dr. Taylor continue to assume these key leadership roles.

 

Dr. Stefi Baum 
Dean, Faculty of Science

Dr. Stefi Baum’s position as dean of the Faculty of Science has been extended to fall 2021.

Since joining UM in 2014 Dr. Baum has made excellent progress with respect to the Faculty’s priorities including, enhancing program quality and development, fostering research collaborations, supporting teaching excellence, and harnessing community connections. She has initiated new and creative ideas that continue to raise the profile of the Faculty and that align with the university’s strategic priorities.

We look forward to her continued innovative leadership as she continues to serve in her role as dean of Science.
