Actions to dismantle racism

New workshop explores how to recognize and dismantle systemic racism using an anti-racist lens

March 23, 2021 —

How do we dismantle racism in our community? What anti-racist actions can we take?

A new workshop will look at the nature of systemic racism and how it affects our UM community and wider communities today. “Dismantling Racism” is scheduled for two dates, and all faculty and staff are invited to participate.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Facilitator Val Williams will lead the workshop.

She says, “We have inherited an historical, systematic, and pervasive way in which race and racism have been constructed in this country. In this workshop, together we will explore how we as individuals and part of this community can recognize and dismantle systemic racism through an anti-racist lens.”

President Benarroch says, “Our commitment must be to closely examine our past, current, and future actions to ensure that we are working towards the dismantling of racism in all its forms. And this change cannot be merely symbolic.”

This session includes small and large group discussions, learning activities and videos.
