Wireless network access uofm-wpa to be disabled May 3

The University has moved to a more robust, secure platform for wireless network access

April 25, 2016 —

The University has moved to a more robust, secure platform for wireless network access (known as uofm-secure). To eliminate the need to maintain two wireless platforms, we are decommissioning our legacy wireless network (uofm-wpa).

What does this mean?

Effective May 3, 2016, the legacy wireless network uofm-wpa will be disabled. Going forward, wireless access for staff and students will be provided through uofm-secure. If you are already using uofm-secure for wireless access, no action is required.

To connect to uofm-secure from a lap top or desktop computer:

  1. Click on the Network Icon at the bottom right corner.
  2. From the list of available wireless connections, select uofm-secure.
  3. Click the Connect Automatically box and then click the Connect button.
  4. Enter in your user ID and password. For staff, enter your UMnet For students, enter your @myumanitoba email address and password.

Note: The uofm-guest wireless network is still available and recommended for those who do not have a University account and require occasional wireless access. Staff and students are encouraged to use uofm-secure.
