Update on international student health coverage

July 9, 2019 —

Effective Sept. 1, 2018, the Manitoba government cancelled international student health coverage under the provincial Manitoba Health plan. Since the provincial announcement was made, we have been investigating how we can best support international students during their studies at the University of Manitoba.

For 2019-2020, we have negotiated an international student health agreement with Blue Cross and StudentCare. Through the Manitoba International Student Health Plan (MISHP), international students have access to the same coverage they had under Manitoba Health. Enrolment in the plan is mandatory for all registered undergraduate and graduate international students, as well as international students in English Language Centre programs and one-year Extended Education programs.

Information on the 2019-2020 plan is now available on our website.

Research at the University of Manitoba is partially supported by funding from the Government of Canada Research Support Fund.
