Moot Report 2024: A season of excellence

The 2024 Moot season held another year of excellent learning opportunities for law students and resulted in several triumphs for the Manitoba moot teams. Awards won included the Spirit of the Laskin Award, the Spirit of Negotiation Award for the French stream of the Canadian National Negotiation Competition (CNNC), and recognition of a fourth-best factum in the all-French language Bastarache moot.

Learning about Arts and Business Law needs of Northern Manitobans

From March 24-27, law students from the Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts and L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic attended the second annual Northern Arts & Food Workshop hosted at University College of the North in The Pas. While in The Pas students stayed on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) at Kikiwak Inn. Learn about OCN and inspiring plans for the Opaskwayak community.

Supreme Court Justice inspires philosophical discussion

The Faculty of Law was pleased to welcome The Honourable Malcolm Rowe, a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, to visit with law students on March 28, 2024. Students, professors and legal professionals filled the Moot Courtroom to first hear him give a short lecture on the work of late SCC Justice Ivan Rand regarding Freedom of Expression, and later open the floor to questions facilitated by law students Logan Nadeau (1L), and Talia David (3L).
